ATO car logbook app

Your 12-week car logbook, kept while you drive.

Just Drive logs every trip on its own. You sort each one with a swipe, and your accountant gets a finished logbook: a PDF and a spreadsheet, ready for your tax return.

How it works

  1. Set up in a minute

Name your car, photograph the odometer, allow location. No account, no forms.

  2. Drive as usual

Trips log themselves, with start and end addresses, times and kilometres. Once a day, swipe each one to work or private. Most days take ten seconds.

  3. Send it to your accountant

After 12 weeks, one tap emails a PDF and spreadsheet with your work-use percentage and odometer photos.

Made for the things that go wrong with logbook apps

  • Pay once, not every month

Most logbook apps charge every month, and a 12-week logbook runs for three. Just Drive is free while you log, then A$29 once for the finished logbook. Nothing renews.

  • It tells you when something's wrong

If tracking stops, Just Drive says so straight away, with the one tap that fixes it. Each week it checks your kilometres against the odometer, so a missed trip shows up now, not at tax time.

  • Sorting takes seconds

Swipe right for work, left for private, and tap the purpose. Name the places you go often, and their trips arrive already sorted for you to confirm.

  • No account, no beacon

Nothing to sign up for and no gadget to stick in the car. Your trips stay on your phone and in your own iCloud or Google backup; we never see them.

  • Ready for your accountant

Before you send it, Just Drive checks every work trip has a purpose and destination, and that the odometer readings cover the 12 weeks.

  • Fix anything, undo everything

Edit, split, merge or delete trips, and add one you forgot. Every change can be undone.

One price, once

A$29

For a finished logbook: PDF and spreadsheet for your accountant, and a reminder each year to note your odometer while the logbook is relied on.

Logging and sorting are free. No subscription, no trip limits.

Questions

What is a car logbook for tax?

To claim work-related car expenses with the ATO's logbook method, you keep a logbook of your driving for at least 12 continuous weeks that's representative of your travel. It gives your work-use percentage, and a logbook stays valid for 5 years unless your circumstances change. The ATO explains the logbook method here.

Does Just Drive meet the ATO's logbook requirements?

It keeps records to ATO logbook requirements: the purpose and destination of each work trip, odometer readings at the start and end of each trip and of the 12 weeks, and the kilometres travelled. It's a record-keeping app, not tax advice; your accountant decides what you claim.

Does it really log trips by itself?

Yes. It uses your phone's location and motion sensors to notice when you start driving, records the trip, and saves it once you've parked. You can also choose to start each trip yourself instead.

What about my battery and privacy?

Location is used when you're driving, not all day. There's no account and no Just Drive server: your trips stay on your phone and in your own backup.

How much does it cost?

Logging and sorting are free. When your 12 weeks are done, a Logbook Pass unlocks the finished logbook for that car: A$29, once. There's no subscription.
